WINDFALL is a purebred Trakehner stallion and a legend in his time. Commanding attention with his dark color and 16.3 hand frame, his unrivalled athleticism has earned him a prominent place in the history of the Trakehner breed.
Bred in Germany, Windfall was approved as a Premium stallion by the German Trakehner Verband in 1994. He was evented by Ingrid Klimke (daughter of the late Dr. Reiner Klimke), representing Germany in almost every significant three-day event for his level. At the tender age of 8 he was selected as Klimke's reserve horse for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
Purchased by Dr. Timothy Holekamp for his New Spring Farm, Windfall came to the United States in 2001 and was entrusted to the care of Darren Chiacchia. His list of performance achievements and honors continued to grow, as time and again he led the field in U.S. and international eventing: 2001 ATA Cäsar Memorial Cup and Advanced CT Reserve Champion . . . 2002 Trakehner Förderverein Award and ATA Advanced CT Champion . . . 2003 ATA Eventing Champion, Palmenblüte Award, ATA and USCTA Cäsar Memorial Cups, and 2003 USEA Horse of the Year . . . 2004 German Verband Trakehner of the Year . . . .
Trakehner friends around the world watched enthralled as he won the 2003 Pan American Games Individual Gold in Eventing, then the Gold Medal at the 2004 Modified **** Rolex at Kentucky, the year culminating in a 12th place individual performance at the 2004 Olympic Games that helped the United States Eventing Team clinch the Bronze Medal.
We watched with particular interest, as two Trakehner fillies by Windfall were born at Tannenwald in May 2004. By the time the Olympics aired from Athens, one filly, Itasophia, had already been purchased by an eventing fan—a new Trakehner fan also glued to his television! It was exciting and delightful to observe Windfall's influence in his young daughters.
Windfall's success as an eventing stallion is no fluke, as he descends from the true nobility of the Trakehner breed proven in the sport. He is sired by Habicht, international eventing stallion ridden by Martin Plewa who competed for Germany in the 1970's. Awarded the designation of "Premium" at his stallion approvals, Habicht proved his value as a progenitor by siring numerous approved sons and daughters who earned the breed's highest honors.
Windfall's dam, Wundermädel, was a Thoroughbred mare and advanced eventing competitor. Approved for Trakehner breeding, the quality and performance of her progeny earned her the "Elite" designation.
Already impressed by how Windfall nicks with our related mares, we are very excited about the cross to our foundation mare, Tara vom Castell. Our 2004 "Windfillies," Itasophia and Tanzbrise, out of Tara's half-sister through the sire (Itamignon) and daughter (Tariana), are extremely typey fillies, perfect combinations of beauty, intelligence, sensibility, fabulous movement, and daddy's signature gallop.
Tara's production record is excellent, and her children include our mares Tariana and Tarika, as well as the gelding Tarythmic.
On June 4 our wait for the Tara-Windfoal foal came to an end, and we are thrilled with the gorgeous black colt this cross has produced!
TARANTINO was purchased in utero by Heidi Lightle of VanKleek Hill, Ontario Canada. CONGRATULATIONS to Heidi on her purchase and the birth of this stand-out foal!
